How to beat the Twitter Algorithm: Featuring Zaimirii... 💯
GM Friends 👋
This week we’re talking about GROWTH 🌋
In this episode I’ll cover:
🪂 Care-Package: Stop what you’re doing right now and follow this person (if you’re not already)
✏️ How to beat the Twitter Algorithm
🧗♂️ Building in Public: The Newsletter
🪂 Care-Package:
A weekly package to help you Grow Faster 💯

Stop what you’re doing right now, and go and follow @Zaimirii
Story time.
Earlier this week, I hit a dilemma. The content that had gotten me over 15,000 followers over the past 5 months wasn’t as effective anymore.
As a content creator, you experience this time and time again. The algorithm changes, and you need to adapt.
As I started to strategise how I would approach this next chapter of my content, I knew I needed to speak to someone who was killing it in this era of Web3 Twitter.
So naturally, my next step was to get on a call with Zai.
And let me tell you, it was a game changer.
Zai broke down his formula that has helped him grow by over 1,000+ followers per week over the past few weeks.
I break down what I learnt in the main section of this newsletter down below.
But if your goal is to grow on Twitter, stop reading this article and do two things:
Step 1️⃣: Click here to follow Zai
Step 2️⃣: Subscribe to his Twitter Growth newsletter (this is where the real alpha is)
🍄 Become Better:
Block out distractions with this app
Do you ever start working, and briefly lose focus, only to realise you’ve subconsciously opened Twitter and started doom scrolling for the past 20 minutes?
Don’t worry, I do too.
Because such a significant portion of my work relies on me being active on Twitter, I found that my muscle memory would bring me there unconsciously whether I wanted to use it or not.
So a couple weeks ago I decided, that’s it. I’m getting a plugin / app to block certain sites during deep focus periods.
It turns out, there’s one app that is absolutely insane.
It’s called Freedom
It is the highest rated distraction blocker for a reason.
The way it works is it disconnects internet connection across your mobile and desktop devices, for specific apps, during specific periods that you designate.
It even has a hard lock feature that means you can’t stop it even if you want to.
It is paid ($39 per year), but for me it’s already paid for itself in the multiple hours of productivity that I’ve gotten it back.
If you’re someone who writes content, or frequently has periods of deep focussed work, I highly recommend trying the free version.
🌿 Feel f*cking fantastic:
Having trouble forming new habits? This is how I’ve managed to create habits that stick.
I used to never find time to exercise, and I’d always forget to take my vitamins.
These were both habits that I knew I needed to build, but I always struggled to be consistent with.
That was until I found one simple trick 🪄
(a cliche line I know, but stick with me)
Instead of looking at these habits as isolated events, I started attaching them to habits that I was already consistent with.
And I then took this one step further by not allowing myself to participate in my existing / desired activity, until I’d done the newly attached habit.
For example, I wanted to be more consistent with my vitamins. So I made a rule that I wasn’t allowed to each lunch unless I’d had my vitamins.
Previously, when I’d gone to have my Athletic Greens vitamin drink, which takes time to set up and blend, I would have moments where I’d say “I’ll do that later” and completely forget.
Now instead, when I’m hungry for lunch, I say to myself “f*ck I’m so hungry, I better have my vitamins quickly so that I can eat lunch.”
What surprised me was how effective this became.
I want to eat lunch, so I must get this habit out of the way to get to lunch.
If I tried to have the vitamins after lunch, I guarantee there would be days where I find excuses, have too much work or simply forget.
So if you’re trying to form a new habit, attach it to something you do every day that you enjoy, and make sure you do it before that activity.
✏️ How to beat the Twitter Algorithm: What I learnt from Zaimirii
So if you read the 🧲 Attract an Audience section above, this is where the real alpha kicks in.
As you may have seen on your timeline, Twitter has changed its algorithm, more creators are writing threads and the content landscape is much more competitive than it was a few months ago.
So how do you take advantage of the algorithm, and optimise your content strategy for growth?
This is what Zai taught me on my call with him last night:
Reply to people 15 minutes before you post, and 15 minutes afterwards. This warms up the algorithm and shows people browsing on Twitter that you are active and will likely engage back.
Find your niche. Now that Web3 is saturated with 100s of people writing the same threads, it’s important to find what separates you from everyone else. For Zai, it’s sharing how to grow on Twitter. For me, it’s sharing the experiences of a Web3 founder with 8 years in the space.
You don’t have to only post about your niche (For example, I’m really enjoying sharing what I’ve been learning about AI), but being know for something specific helps you stand out amongst the crowd.Use the tool Blackmagic. This is a plugin that shows how engaged certain people are with your content. This can help you prioritise engaging with new followers and people who frequently enjoy your content.
Don’t use your ‘For You’ feed, use lists instead. The Twitter algorithm doesn’t necessarily produce the highest quality news feed for you to be engaging with. Instead, you should be curating your own news feed by using Twitter’s ‘lists’ feature as your primary stream of content.
Every week Zai shares Twitter Growth alpha in his newsletter. I highly recommend checking it out at the link below:
🧗 Started from the bottom now we’re here…
If you’re new here, one of the core principles of the content I share is that a newsletter is the most linear and simple business you can start in Web3. It has high sponsorship revenue and can go from being a side hustle to a full-time business in under a year. I am building this newsletter in public, to share the progress each week so that you can be a part of the journey. Now let’s get into it 👇
This Week:
Subscribers: 2,372 (+18 Subscribers)
Open Rate: 45.3%
Tracking my goals:
✅ Get my first sponsorship: (Complete)
🚂 2,372 / 3,000 Subscribers: A nice rise towards the end of the week. It will be interesting to see how my new thread formats will impact this in the weeks to come.
✅ Create a new internal template: (Complete)
Have a great weekend legends 💯
