🤝 I just secured a paid monthly ambassadorship. Here’s how I did it.

GM Friends,

This week is a little different. I’m doing a deep dive on how I secured a paid Web3 ambassadorship.

This will help anyone who is:

➣ Hunting ambassadorships
➣ Looking for a paid job in Web3
➣ Wanting to create their own opportunities, not wanting to wait for what comes to them.

Let’s jump in 👇️

🤝  Getting a paid ambassadorship

Something I’ve been preaching a lot lately is that creators need to stop chasing sponsorships, and instead get ambassadorship deals.

One-off sponsorships suck 🙅‍♂️

❌ You spend so much time trying to secure them, and then they’re done.
❌ You have no idea when you’ll get your next one.
❌ It’s super transactional. You have no time to build a relationship with the brand.

Ambassadorships are awesome 🏆

✅ You sell once, and then you get paid monthly.
✅ You’re not guessing where your next paycheque is coming from.
✅ You get to work with brands that YOU personally like, and develop a deeper relationship with them.

So what’s my ambassadorship and how did I get it?

I’ve now joined Polytrade as an ambassador.

What’s Polytrade? TLDR: A marketplace for Real World Assets (RWAs) that are represented by an NFT. This includes Watches, Real Estate, Pokemon Cards and so much more. This usecase is f*cking awesome and something I want to get more involved in.

Getting the opportunity all started with a decision:

“F*ck doing one-off sponsorships (for all the reasons I mentioned above).

I want to find a brand that I actually like.

I want to learn about everything that they’re doing.

And I want to be able to create content in my own voice.”

I decided that instead of waiting for brands to come to me, I was going to reach out to THEM.

I made a list of brands that I wanted to work with,

And brands that I had worked with in the past to see if any of these fit.

I then made a list of people who either worked at those companies or were connected to people at those companies.

And I started reaching out, booking as many calls as possible.

For Polytrade, I reached out to the guys at R3ACH who had gotten me a one-off sponsorship with them in the past.

If you’ve worked with the brand already, that’s a great starting point because you have an idea of what they’re interested in and what their budget is.

Tom from R3ACH was able to connect me with the team for an intro call.

This was my chance to pitch.

⚾️ THE PITCH ⚾️

I way over-prepared for this call.

I knew every asset on their website.

I knew every goal they had in the short, medium and longterm.

And I prepared multiple ways to take the partnership, depending on what they mentioned on the call.

You’d think a pitch is about jumping on and selling yourself, but it’s actually the opposite.

It’s about listening.

Your job is to listen to what they care about, and be prepared enough so that at the end of the call you can share your thoughts on how you can help.

This is exactly what I did,

And at the end of the call, the team said:

“This sounds interesting, can you send us a proposal and we can take it from there.”

“Of course” I said.

(Whilst internally thinking: “Write a proposal, how the f*ck do I do that…”)

At this point in the story, you might be thinking the same.

Don’t worry, I’ve got you.

📝 WRITING THE PROPOSAL 📝

This lowkey was pretty daunting,

Because I really wanted to work with this brand, so I had to get it right.

I wrote my initial draft, capturing why I’m a good fit for Polytrade.

This included:

1️⃣ Why I personally align with the brand / my background with RWAs

I got into Web3 because I was excited about the concept of sneaker collecting without having to physically hold and store the sneakers themselves (which is now known as trading RWAs).

What Polytrade is doing is literally the reason that I became interested in Web3.

2️⃣ Who I am as a creator (building social proof):

➣ I’ve worked with these brands
➣ My engagement is higher than other creators at my size (show anonymous example)
➣ My audience is high trust from posting educational content / helpful content.

3️⃣ What I propose we do together:

➣ A short overview
➣ Bullet points on deliverables (e.g. 4x posts per month, 2x longform, 2x shortform, etc)
➣ Pricing

One thing that I was super lucky with is that I had Tom from R3ACH worked on this with me the entire week,

And then CaptainCK came through and took it from being how I’d made it (looking like a Grade 9 homework assignment), into being something that I could be proud to present to a brand.

If you guys want to have my template for yourself and see the unfiltered piece that I pitched, I’ll be sharing it in the private creators section of the Bricktopians Discord.

📮 SENDING THE PROPOSAL 📮

About 5 days later, I sent the proposal through to the team.

In future, I’d like to be a lot faster on this, and now I have a template which will help with my follow-up.

🤝 THE CONVERSATION THAT FOLLOWED 🤝

We kept in touch on other aspects of the platform throughout the week,

But it took about a week to hear back on the proposal specifically.

As a creator, it’s easy to feel that the brand may not be interested because of this,

But the reality is that they are SUPER busy, and as creators we are a part of a much bigger system.

So I was grateful when I heard back from the team the following Friday.

They shared an offer on what they would like from the partnership and a price they were comfortable with,

And after a follow-up conversation over telegram we met in the middle of our two offers which was awesome.

One thing I love about Web3 is that things move super quickly. Within 48 hours I was paid, our first post was out and we were up and running.

And that was it.

I’m now officially a Polytrade ambassador.

🫵 Okay, so how can you use this story for yourself 🫵

If you take anything away from this story, there is one important thing to understand.

You don’t have to wait for deals to find YOU.

You can go out and reach out to the brands you like, and work with them.

Even if they don’t have a formal ambassadorship program. With Polytrade they weren’t even looking for ambassadors.

But you should also takeaway this step-by-step process for securing ambassadorships, jobs and other opportunities:

1️⃣ Make a list of brands you want to work with (and who you know at those brands)

2️⃣ Spend a week getting on as many discovery calls as possible.

Over-prepare for these calls, show that you care about the brand.

And make sure to do more listening and question asking than pitching.

3️⃣ Send a fast follow-up of what you can do for them (use a template for this)

As mentioned, I’ll be sharing my template in Bricktopians.

4️⃣ Stay in touch with them until the deal is closed

Getting these opportunities is definitely not easy.

I’ve also pitched multiple brands now that haven’t gone ahead.

But when you secure them, it’s so awesome because you can actually get paid to create content that you enjoy writing about.

I hope this story was helpful to you,

And if you ever have any questions, always feel free to send me a DM.

Have a great weekend friends ☀️
